Senior Design Engineer, Electrical
As a Senior Design Engineer – Electrical at AirTrunk, you will be instrumental in leading the design, review, and optimization of electrical systems for hyperscale data centres. Reporting to the Design Manager and collaborating closely with various teams and leadership in Australia, your role is pivotal in ensuring energy efficiency, resilience, and reliability in our data centre operations.
Your primary responsibilities include developing and reviewing electrical designs for mission-critical power systems, such as HV/LV distribution, UPS, generators, and switchgear, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards. You will produce maximum demand calculations aligned with redundancy system topology, create single-line diagrams, and oversee the development of major equipment layouts. Additionally, you will interface with key customers, support power system modeling and studies, identify and mitigate risks related to power continuity and system performance, and actively coordinate design development with other disciplines and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or higher, with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in electrical engineering, including at least 5 years in data centre or mission-critical environments. Demonstrated experience in designing HV/LV electrical systems, UPS, generators, and associated infrastructure for data centres is essential. A strong understanding of critical cooling systems and their integration with electrical infrastructure, as well as knowledge of ICT, telecommunication infrastructure, and fibre connectivity, is required. Proficiency in power system analysis, including fault level, load flow, harmonics, and protection studies, along with familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards, is also necessary. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are vital, and experience in construction and commissioning is favorable but not essential.
