Senior Engineering Manager
As a Senior Engineering Manager in the Search & Listings (S&L) organization at Compass, you will lead a team central to our real estate technology platform, simplifying the process of finding, buying, and selling homes. The S&L team is responsible for aggregating property and listing data from numerous sources nationwide, ensuring data quality, and building rich experiences for agents and consumers to search, track, share, and explore properties. These tools are foundational in enabling agents to work more efficiently, allowing them to focus on growing their businesses.
In this role, you will oversee critical products and services integral to agent workflows, including both agent and consumer-facing real estate search experiences. Given the central position of these services within the Compass platform and their integration with various core products, this position requires a seasoned manager who upholds the highest operational standards and excels in facilitating essential discussions with stakeholders across multiple functions and organizations. Your responsibilities will include managing a large infrastructure footprint with a focus on resilience and cost-efficiency, collaborating cross-functionally on high-priority projects, and delivering results that impact company-wide goals.
Key responsibilities include leading, mentoring, and growing a team of talented managers and engineers; setting organizational goals and developing roadmaps; providing guidance in career development and performance management; overseeing the entire software development lifecycle to ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions; collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business objectives; driving innovation and maintaining code quality; and identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance team efficiency and project delivery.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; over 10 years of experience in software development, with at least 7 years in management roles; a highly technical background with hands-on experience in designing, developing, and maintaining web applications, distributed backend systems, or data platforms; proficiency with technologies such as Java, AWS, ElasticSearch, Kafka, Python, TypeScript, and React; strong leadership and interpersonal skills; a proven track record of using agile principles to meet project goals; excellent communication skills; and a focus on building stable and reliable products that meet customer needs.
The base pay range for this position is $167,000 to $252,200 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits. Base pay is based on market location. Minimum wage for the position will always be met.
