Senior Frontend Engineer, Design Systems
Chime is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to join our Design Systems team, playing a pivotal role in evolving the core foundations of our products. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with experienced engineers and designers to develop innovative solutions that power our user experiences, including elements such as tokens, typography, color schemes, patterns, and component architecture. The role also involves shaping the roadmap for our internal applications and mobile app, influencing the design and functionality that our members interact with daily.
Key responsibilities include exercising technical leadership on high-impact projects, advocating for and implementing best practices in UX development to ensure a seamless and consistent user experience across all applications, and implementing product features while collaborating with backend engineers to define and integrate platform APIs. The role also involves mentoring team members, documenting and sharing knowledge within the team and the broader Chime Engineering community, fostering collaboration across engineering teams to create reusable, scalable solutions, and contributing to architecture blueprints that benefit the entire organization. Additionally, the Senior Frontend Engineer will lead projects by defining timelines, managing scope, overseeing development, ensuring quality, and participating in a community of practice focused on frontend ecosystem architecture, development, testing, deployment, and release. Participation in an on-call rotation is required, which may include responding to incidents outside of regular working hours when necessary.
The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge and ability to navigate all aspects of front-end development, with over 6 years of active web and/or mobile development experience using React, React Native, and TypeScript. They should demonstrate the ability to be both a team player and a top-level individual contributor in a cross-functional environment, collaborating effectively with engineers, designers, and product managers. Experience working across the stack, including React Native, Native iOS/Android, GraphQL API, and CI/Build systems, is essential. Familiarity with modern front-end build pipelines and tooling, as well as web front-end technologies and frameworks, is required. Strong communication skills, leadership abilities, and proficiency in writing thorough and effective tests for code are also important. Experience in rolling out features through a gradual process, closely monitoring their impact, and scaling up through a slow ramp to ensure stability and performance is highly valued.
The base salary for this role ranges from $164,000 to $227,000 annually, depending on location, skills, qualifications, and experience. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and comprehensive benefits.
