Software Engineer, Instant Loans
Chime's Instant Loans team develops products that provide members with immediate liquidity for significant, specific needs, offering clear and predictable repayment plans to help build credit responsibly. As a Software Engineer on this team, you will work across the technology stack to build and scale services that offer loans ranging from a few hundred to several thousand dollars, with terms extending from months to years. This role is ideal for engineers who are eager to move quickly, collaborate closely with product, design, data, and risk teams, and are passionate about expanding financial access and stability for millions of members.
In this position, you will design, develop, test, refactor, and scale backend implementations of new and existing consumer product features. You will work on member-facing mobile applications, including designing and building robust, resilient APIs that power key member experiences. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to understand member pain points and develop effective solutions. Additionally, you will develop thoroughly tested code and conduct quality assurance on all new code alongside the QA team, while proactively identifying opportunities to improve the reliability and scalability of our systems. Participation in an on-call rotation is required, which may include responding to incidents outside of regular working hours when necessary.
To thrive in this role, you should have at least 3 years of experience developing software in a production environment at scale. Proven experience with Ruby on Rails or comparable frameworks is essential, along with comfort working across the stack and a willingness to learn new technologies. Experience in designing APIs, working with transactional databases and caching systems, and a product mindset with a strong bias toward experimentation, iteration, and measuring impact are important. Exposure to large-scale architecture patterns and an appreciation for clean, maintainable code are also valuable. Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience working cross-functionally, are necessary. Experience in a fast-paced, product-focused environment is preferred, and fintech experience is a plus.
The base salary for this role ranges from $133,000 to $184,000, depending on location, skills, qualifications, and experience. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. Chime offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a 401(k) match, medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits, generous vacation policy, company-wide paid days off, and an annual wellness stipend. Additional perks include backup child, elder, and pet care, a subsidized commuter benefit, and access to Maven, a family planning tool with a $15,000 lifetime reimbursement for egg freezing, fertility treatments, adoption, and more.
