Software Engineer, Credit Risk Platform
Chime is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Credit Risk Platform team, focusing on developing backend services and internal tools that manage credit risk across products like Loans, MyPay, and SpotMe. This role involves building a shared risk platform that scales with each new product, enabling efficient onboarding without reinventing decisioning, controls, and monitoring processes. The engineer will collaborate closely with Credit Risk, Product, Analytics, and Data Science teams to enhance tooling, data integration, and establish clear operational guardrails.
Key responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, and maintaining backend services that support risk strategies across multiple products, such as eligibility, limits, exposure tracking, and policy enforcement. The role also involves contributing to reusable platform components that facilitate the rapid and safe launch of new credit products, improving workflows for Credit Risk teams to adjust strategies with appropriate safeguards, integrating third-party data sources for decisioning and monitoring, and adding instrumentation, dashboards, and alerts for key risk and loss indicators. Participation in on-call rotations and incident response is also expected.
Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience developing software in a production environment, with proficiency in Ruby on Rails or similar frameworks for building and operating APIs. Experience with relational databases and caching systems, including writing safe schema changes and migrations, is essential. Familiarity with distributed systems fundamentals, such as asynchronous processing, idempotency, retries, and backfills, is beneficial. A strong commitment to maintainable, well-tested code and the ability to collaborate across teams to clarify requirements and deliver incremental improvements are also important.
The base salary for this role ranges from $133,000 to $184,000, with full-time employees also eligible for bonuses, competitive equity packages, and comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered may vary based on location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
