Senior Mechanical Engineer I
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Axon, you will take technical ownership of mechanical systems and assemblies, guiding them from early concept and architecture through prototyping, qualification, and production. This role involves designing durable mechanical solutions for fixed, portable, and mobile counter-unmanned aerial systems (cUAS), focusing on thermal performance, weight, stiffness, and environmental robustness. Axon is dedicated to protecting life through innovative safety and justice solutions, and this position plays a crucial role in advancing that mission.
Key responsibilities include developing housings, structures, and mounting concepts, applying structural and thermal simulations to guide design decisions, and collaborating closely with electrical, RF, and systems engineers on mechanical-electrical integration. The role also involves hands-on prototyping, testing, and iterative design improvements, as well as working with manufacturing partners on design for manufacturability and assembly, material selection, and production processes.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with several years of experience in mechanical design and system integration for complex hardware products. A strong background in designing for harsh or regulated environments, proficiency with CAD tools, and experience with structural and thermal simulation tools are essential. Additionally, practical understanding of manufacturing processes, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to mentor within an engineering team are highly valued.
This role is based out of Axon's Kassel office and follows a hybrid schedule, with in-person collaboration from Tuesday through Friday and the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays. Axon fosters a culture of innovation and teamwork, providing opportunities for professional growth and development within a mission-driven organization.
