Senior ML/AI Modeler, Risk Automation Machine Learning
Block is seeking a Senior ML/AI Modeler to join the Risk Automation Machine Learning team. This team focuses on automating risk and compliance investigations and decision-making processes using agentic and generative AI technologies. The role involves collaborating with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure a secure user experience by identifying and mitigating fraudulent, illegal, and suspicious activities on platforms like Cash App and Square.
In this position, you will experiment with and deploy AI copilot and autopilot systems at scale to enhance analyst productivity and eliminate manual decision loops. You will oversee the entire system, including API integrations with various data sources, advanced prompt tuning, orchestration, metrics evaluation, productionization, and monitoring. Utilizing diverse datasets such as payment transactions, user profiles, and unstructured text data, you will develop transformer-based machine learning models to improve detection tasks. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to deploy production-grade systems and monitor their ongoing performance.
Candidates should have over eight years of experience in machine learning modeling, with a preference for full-stack ML expertise. A Master's or advanced degree in computer science, data science, operations research, applied mathematics, statistics, physics, or a related technical field is required. At least three years of experience in AI engineering, particularly with large language models and traditional NLP techniques, is highly desirable. Proficiency in building and deploying ML/AI systems to production environments, both batch and real-time, at scale is essential. The role also demands experience in independently leading programs with multiple cross-functional stakeholders and a growth-oriented mindset to identify creative solutions.
The compensation for this role ranges from $189,000 to $283,600 annually, depending on experience and location. Benefits include a retirement plan and life insurance. The position offers flexibility with remote work options available across the United States and Canada.
