Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Java)

SmartRecruiters is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Java) to join our dynamic engineering team. As a key member of our R&D department, you will contribute to our mission of connecting great people with great jobs through innovative technology solutions. SmartRecruiters, an SAP company, delivers an AI-powered hiring platform that automates and optimizes the entire talent acquisition process, serving over 4,000 companies worldwide.

In this role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of product development, including problem discovery, prototyping, design, implementation, and measuring adoption. You will build services using Java and Node.js on top of Kubernetes and AWS infrastructure, develop developer-friendly RESTful APIs, and design and connect to our persistence layer utilizing PostgreSQL and ElasticSearch. Collaboration with other teams is essential to ensure seamless integration and delivery of our services.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in designing, developing, and operating distributed systems, with a deep command of the Java programming language. Experience supporting end-to-end product lifecycles, hands-on experience with test-driven development, clean code principles, and effective code reviews are essential. Strong domain modeling skills, understanding of persistence layers, and RESTful API design are required. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, AWS/GCP, Kubernetes/Docker, and AI coding assistants is a plus.
