Chime is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Data Platform team in San Francisco, CA. This team is responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure that supports all engineering and analytics functions, including data ingestion, transformation, quality assurance, governance, and self-service tools for both batch and streaming workloads. The role offers high autonomy and the opportunity to make significant architectural decisions with immediate production impact.

In this position, you will design, build, and operate self-service ETL/ELT frameworks that support both batch and streaming workloads, ensuring pipeline reliability, data quality SLAs, and schema evolution. You will drive the technical roadmap for the data platform, evaluating build-versus-buy decisions, defining integration patterns, and setting standards adopted across the company. Collaboration with Product Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, and Marketing teams is essential to design data contracts, onboard new data domains, and scale ingestion processes while maintaining governance standards. Additionally, you will architect and enforce data lineage, schema registry, and access controls to ensure compliance with fintech regulatory requirements. Monitoring, alerting, debugging, and resolving incidents across the data platform are also key responsibilities. Mentoring junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews and design discussions is expected.

The ideal candidate has over five years of experience in building, shipping, and operating data infrastructure in production environments, with a focus on reliability, performance, and cost management. Strong system design skills, including experience in writing design documents and making architectural trade-offs, are essential. Proficiency in Python or Java/Kotlin is required, along with experience in cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift. Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools like Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect, infrastructure as code tools like Terraform, and streaming technologies such as Kafka, Flink, or Kinesis is necessary. Experience in data modeling and transformation frameworks like dbt, as well as building observability solutions for data systems, is also important. Experience operating in regulated environments where data governance and access control are critical is preferred.

The base salary for this role ranges from $187,000 to $259,000, depending on experience and location. Full-time employees are also eligible for bonuses, competitive equity packages, and comprehensive benefits, including a 401(k) match, medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance. Additional perks include a generous vacation policy, company-wide paid days off, an annual wellness stipend, and up to 24 weeks of paid parental leave for birthing parents and 12 weeks for non-birthing parents.
