Senior Software Engineer, Guidance, Navigation, & Controls
Anduril Industries is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Tactical Reconnaissance and Strike (TRS) division in Atlanta, Georgia. This division focuses on developing advanced autonomous drones and solid rocket motors, transforming concepts like Ghost, Anvil, Bolt, and Altius into fully operational systems. The Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) team within TRS is dedicated to implementing, analyzing, testing, and validating GNC software solutions for the autonomous drone fleet, addressing challenges such as attitude and position control, waypoint and terminal guidance, and operations in contested environments, including communication and GPS-denied scenarios.
In this role, the engineer will be responsible for developing, debugging, and testing flight controllers and guidance algorithms. They will create and evaluate Software-In-The-Loop and Hardware-In-The-Loop tests to prepare for flight testing. Collaboration with the flight software team is essential to define requirements, integrate GNC software, and test functionality in simulation. Additionally, the engineer will review test data from flight control systems and other instrumentation to verify vehicle performance, assess GNC algorithm behavior, and troubleshoot incidents during testing or from fielded assets. Developing models to support the functional evaluation of GNC software is also a key aspect of the position.
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with a focus on dynamic systems and control. A minimum of eight years of professional experience in a GNC role, preferably on airborne platforms, is required. Proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink, as well as experience in modeling and simulating linear and nonlinear dynamic systems and model linearization, are essential. A passion for defending the United States and its allies is important, and candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Preferred qualifications include a master's degree or PhD in a related field, experience with state estimation techniques such as Kalman filtering and sensor fusion, and expertise in integrating and debugging navigation systems for aerial platforms. Experience with flight control design and analysis for fixed and rotary-wing aircraft or missile systems, guidance algorithm development, proficiency in C/C++, and experience with Simulink Embedded Coder are also advantageous.
The salary range for this position is $165,000 to $218,000 USD annually. Anduril offers comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans at little to no cost to employees, along with income protection through life and disability insurance.
