Waymo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Vehicle and Autonomous Driving Realism team within the Simulator division. This team is dedicated to developing advanced simulation environments that accurately reflect real-world driving conditions, which are essential for testing and refining the Waymo Driver. As a pioneer in autonomous driving technology, Waymo's mission is to create the world's most trusted driver, enhancing mobility and safety on the roads.

In this role, the engineer will collaborate closely with onboard and research engineers to scale simulation capabilities and support critical project milestones. Responsibilities include developing, testing, and evolving mapping data within the simulator, as well as monitoring and improving the performance, scalability, and reliability of the simulation platform. Additionally, the engineer will design long-term architectures to accommodate an increasing number of internal customers and evolving product requirements.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building widely-used products, with at least five years of expertise in backend development, including workflows, databases, SQL, and production monitoring. Proficiency in C++ is essential. Preferred qualifications include experience releasing software in highly distributed, heterogeneous execution environments, systems programming knowledge (such as game engines, databases, operating systems, or distributed systems), and familiarity with machine learning agent development.

The position offers a competitive base salary ranging from $204,000 to $259,000 annually, depending on factors such as location, experience, and skill level. Employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo's discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and comprehensive benefits package.

Waymo fosters a collaborative and innovative work environment, providing opportunities for professional growth and development. Joining the team means contributing to cutting-edge technology that is shaping the future of autonomous transportation, with a focus on safety, reliability, and real-world impact.
