Staff Machine Learning Engineer - Integrations & Solutions Group (AU remote)

Canva is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join its Integrations & Solutions Group, focusing on enhancing AI integration within the platform. This team is responsible for developing the infrastructure that connects Canva's design capabilities with leading AI assistants, collaborating with partners like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google to drive innovation in AI-driven design interactions.

In this role, you will design and evolve AI-ready tools and APIs, ensuring seamless interaction between large language models (LLMs) and Canva's design features. Responsibilities include developing evaluation frameworks to measure tool-use accuracy, shaping Canva's agent architecture for efficient orchestration of design tools, and building observability systems to monitor AI assistant interactions in production environments.

The ideal candidate has experience deploying LLM-powered systems into production, with a proven track record of improving tool-call accuracy, reducing error rates, and enhancing user outcomes through effective AI integration. Proactive problem-solving skills, the ability to identify and address undefined issues, and experience in building evaluation pipelines are essential. Proficiency in Python and familiarity with ML frameworks, as well as experience with TypeScript/Node.js and cloud infrastructure, are required.
