Staff Machine Learning Engineer - Integrations & Solutions Group (AU remote)

Canva is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join its Integrations & Solutions Group, focusing on enhancing the AI integration layer that connects Canva's design capabilities with leading AI assistants. This role is pivotal in driving the technical standards, evaluation frameworks, and architectural decisions to ensure reliable and measurable integrations within a rapidly evolving ecosystem.

Key responsibilities include designing and evolving AI-ready tools and APIs that enable large language model platforms to interact seamlessly with Canva's design features. The engineer will own and develop evaluation frameworks to systematically measure tool-use accuracy across platforms, shape Canva's agent architecture by making strategic technical decisions, and define observability systems to monitor AI assistant interactions in production. Additionally, the role involves proactive problem identification across team and platform boundaries and influencing integration strategies with AI partners and internal teams.

The ideal candidate has experience deploying LLM-powered systems into production, with a proven track record of quantifiable impact. They should proactively identify and solve undefined problems, build and own evaluation pipelines end-to-end, and set technical standards that others follow. Proficiency in Python and familiarity with machine learning frameworks are essential, along with comfort working with TypeScript/Node.js and cloud infrastructure. The candidate should thrive in cross-team, partner-facing work and be energized by ambiguity and rapid pace in the AI ecosystem.
