Staff Release Engineer
As a Staff Release Engineer at Ridgeline, you will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) systems to enable scalable, repeatable, and safe software delivery. You will collaborate closely with Infrastructure, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Engineering teams to create automated and consistent release workflows, implement observability and rollback capabilities, and develop systems to prevent risky changes and support faster mean time to recovery. Your work will drive efficiency, reliability, and visibility across engineering, making you a force multiplier for product delivery.
Key responsibilities include establishing and enforcing release standards such as artifact validation, test coverage thresholds, and dependency checks. You will create self-service tools that empower developers and reduce deployment friction, define and report on release metrics that drive transparency and continuous improvement, and champion a product mindset for internal tools by deeply understanding the needs of developer teams. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies—including AI tools like GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT—you will help accelerate delivery while reducing risk and complexity.
The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of experience in Release Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering roles. Expertise with CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD, or Spinnaker is essential, along with strong scripting or coding skills in languages like Python, Go, or Bash, and experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Helm. A deep understanding of release strategies (blue/green, canary, rolling) and artifact/versioning systems, as well as experience with Kubernetes and modern cloud-native infrastructure, is required. Familiarity with observability tools and release health metrics, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and a passion for automation, testing, and scalable system design are also important.
Ridgeline offers a competitive compensation package with a targeted cash compensation amount for this role between $174,000 and $220,000. Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise. In addition to the base salary, 100% of Ridgeline employees can participate in the Company Stock Plan subject to the applicable Stock Option Agreement. Benefits include unlimited vacation, educational and wellness reimbursements, and $0 cost employee insurance plans.
