Staff Software Engineer
As a Staff Software Engineer at Axon, you will play a pivotal role in the Real Time Operations division, focusing on developing advanced situational awareness software for emergency responders. This position involves designing and building critical systems across cloud, web, and mobile platforms to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of first responders in life-and-death situations. You will collaborate with various teams to integrate real-time data from devices such as patrol cars, body cameras, and drones, providing users with comprehensive information to make informed decisions.
Your primary responsibilities will include leading the design of major software components and systems, reviewing architectural designs to ensure high availability and performance, and writing well-tested, maintainable code. You will also assess engineering risks, guide strategic technical initiatives, and mentor senior engineers to cultivate the next generation of technical leaders within the organization. Additionally, you will work closely with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to drive and deliver on the product roadmap, aiming to improve safety and efficiency for users globally.
The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record in designing and building complex, highly-available cloud systems. Proficiency with various data storage systems, including relational and NoSQL databases, and experience with stream processing technologies are essential. While not mandatory, experience with web frontend technologies like React, Redux, and TypeScript, as well as native mobile app development for iOS or Android, is advantageous. A background in maps or cartography is also beneficial. Strong leadership skills, including mentoring and growing other senior software engineers, and the ability to collaborate with product and design teams to create features that delight customers, are crucial for success in this role.
