As a Staff Software Engineer at Compass, you will lead the design and development of services that enhance the consumer experience and support the growth of our scalable brokerage. You will be instrumental in building a collaborative transaction management platform that streamlines the home buying and selling process, enabling agents to manage transactions from initial contact to close, including accessing forms, sending documents for electronic signature, and managing offers for clients.

In this role, you will provide strategic direction and ownership of Compass's software architecture. Your responsibilities will include building, developing, and scaling the platform that empowers real estate professionals, buyers, and sellers. You will become a domain expert in real estate technology, serving as an empathetic partner to our customers. Additionally, you will inspire, recruit, and mentor fellow engineers, lead in architecting our distributed microservices architecture, and operate within a scalable engineering culture that leverages modern principles of decoupled systems and automated CI/CD/testing/monitoring to drive efficiencies.

The ideal candidate will have a BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, with a track record as a technical leader with cross-team impact. You should possess 10+ years of experience developing comprehensive, well-tested, and high-performance software applications, with proficiency in programming languages such as Java or Go. Experience with gRPC, Thrift, and other server-to-server communication protocols, as well as Kafka and event-driven systems, is essential. Additionally, 5+ years of experience using AWS or other cloud technologies, high proficiency in designing and implementing microservices, and adherence to industry-standard best practices in software development and architecture are required. Strong critical thinking skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for delivering operational excellence are also important.

The base pay range for this position is $200,070 to $222,300; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits. Base pay is based on market location, and the minimum wage for the position will always be met.
