Staff Software Engineer
As a Staff Software Engineer in the Transaction Journey organization at Compass, you will lead the design and development of services that enhance the consumer experience and support the growth of our scalable brokerage. This role involves building a collaborative transaction management platform that streamlines the process of buying and selling homes, enabling agents to manage transactions from initial contact to close.
Your key responsibilities will include providing strategic direction and ownership of Compass's software architecture, developing and scaling the platform that empowers real estate professionals, and becoming a domain expert in real estate technology. You will also inspire, recruit, and mentor fellow engineers, lead in architecting our distributed microservices architecture, and operate within a scalable engineering culture that leverages modern principles of decoupled systems and automated CI/CD/testing/monitoring.
The ideal candidate will have a BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, with a track record as a technical leader with cross-team impact. You should possess over 10 years of experience developing comprehensive, well-tested, and high-performance software applications, with proficiency in programming languages such as Java or Go. Experience with gRPC, Thrift, and other server-to-server communication protocols, as well as Kafka and event-driven systems, is essential. Additionally, you should have over 5 years of experience using AWS or other cloud technologies, high proficiency in designing and implementing microservices, and a strong understanding of industry-standard best practices in software development and architecture.
