Staff Wireless Software Engineer
Axon is seeking a Staff Wireless Software Engineer to lead the development of mission-critical communication systems for public safety professionals. This role involves architecting and implementing wireless protocol stacks, transport abstraction layers, and real-time communication systems across Axon's devices. The position is based in San Francisco, California, with a hybrid work schedule requiring onsite collaboration four days per week.
The Staff Wireless Software Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing wireless communication stacks, including LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and mesh networks. Key duties include developing low-latency, high-reliability push-to-talk and real-time voice transport systems, optimizing performance metrics such as latency and packet loss, and collaborating with RF, hardware, and firmware teams to ensure end-to-end system performance. Additionally, the role involves driving modem integration efforts and contributing to secure communication layers.
Candidates should have over 10 years of experience in wireless software development, with strong proficiency in C/C++ within embedded or systems environments. A deep understanding of wireless protocols such as LTE, 5G NR, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth is essential. Experience working with modem vendors like Qualcomm, real-time systems, low-latency audio transport, and strong networking fundamentals are also required. Familiarity with RF performance constraints and experience debugging packet-level and radio-layer issues are important for success in this role.
Axon offers a competitive salary ranging from $168,750 to $270,000 USD, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
