Strategic Account Manager
The Strategic Account Manager role at Square focuses on managing relationships with some of the company's largest sellers in the Food and Beverage sector. This position is part of the Strategic Account Management organization, which aims to establish, retain, and grow Square's most valuable and engaged sellers. Square, a subsidiary of Block, has evolved from enabling simple payment solutions to offering integrated, omnichannel tools that support sellers of all sizes in managing their operations and expanding their businesses.
In this role, the Strategic Account Manager will oversee a portfolio of 50 strategic Food & Beverage sellers. Key responsibilities include growing account-based revenue through use-case expansion and cross-sell opportunities, serving as the voice of upmarket sellers to product teams, and acting as a consultant to high-value restaurant sellers to help them achieve their goals. The role also involves identifying technical solutions to address customer needs, managing the execution of these solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams, partnering with Strategic Account Executives on high-growth deals, negotiating pricing for use-case expansion and retention, providing exceptional client service, and conducting quarterly business reviews with various stakeholders.
Candidates should have over 5 years of relevant account management experience, with a proven track record of managing, retaining, and growing a book of business. Consistent over-performance on key sales or customer success metrics is essential. The role requires strong discovery skills, a technical solutioning framework including requirements gathering, experience managing multiple projects internally with engineering, product, and finance teams, and contract or pricing negotiation experience with senior external stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as creative and strategic problem-solving capabilities, are also necessary. Experience in the restaurant industry or with Food & Beverage technology is preferred.
Block takes a market-based approach to compensation, with pay varying depending on location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
