Summer Intern Data Engineer/Software Engineer
Echodyne Corp is seeking a Summer Intern in Data Engineering/Software Engineering to join our data engineering and analytics team. This role focuses on developing an automated Radar-to-GPS Track Alignment and Target Data Ingestion Tool, a Python-based application that synchronizes GPS-equipped target telemetry with radar track data, automates time synchronization, and enables interactive visualization and analyst-in-the-loop refinement. This opportunity offers hands-on experience in software development, radar data processing, and applied algorithms within a dynamic and innovative environment.
Key responsibilities include developing a Python-based alignment engine to synchronize and minimize positional errors between radar track latitude/longitude data and GPS target telemetry. The intern will implement algorithms for time offset estimation and optimization, support classification-informed track selection, document algorithms and workflows, develop AI-assisted workflows for GPS file format parsing, and prototype an interactive user interface for visualizing trajectory alignment and reviewing residual errors.
Candidates should be currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field, preferably in their junior year or above. Strong Python programming skills are essential, along with familiarity with scientific computing libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, and Pandas. Experience with data visualization libraries like Plotly, Bokeh, Matplotlib, or Holoviz tools is required. An understanding of optimization techniques, signal processing concepts, or time-series analysis is preferred. Experience with geospatial data, linear algebra, coordinate transformations, or radar systems is a plus. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are important.
The internship offers compensation based on academic standing: juniors at $29.00 per hour, seniors at $32.00 per hour, and graduates (BS complete) at $35.00 per hour. Additional benefits include hands-on experience with real-world data challenges, mentorship from experienced professionals, a collaborative and inclusive work environment, opportunities to work on impactful projects, an Orca Card for commuting, free snacks, and a waffle breakfast every Wednesday morning.
Echodyne fosters a collaborative and inclusive company culture, emphasizing innovation and professional growth. Interns will have the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that directly impact the company's mission, gaining valuable experience in a supportive and dynamic setting. This role provides a unique chance to contribute to cutting-edge radar technology and develop skills that are highly relevant in the industry.
